In this era of globalisation and rapid development, a holistic approach can improve quality of life between one another and between humans’ and nature. We are a beautiful world of diverse cultures. We are Beings who are able to work together and bring harmony to the natural world through our global ideas. Two concepts within the Yoga ethos come to mind when thinking about this truth and the environment, specifically global warming and climate change. Firstly, everything is interconnected and secondly non-violence. Collectively, we may have become somewhat disconnected from these issues due to our busy lives. Motivating people toward an issue becomes near impossible when they feel disjointed. However, we know that climate change is destroying our planet in an alarming manner.  The devastation happening in ecosystems all over the world has been proven by scientists’ time and time again. Yet, logic is not always sufficient to motivate us to make changes. We also know what adjustments to make but do we have the motivation to implement them? Recycle glass, plastic, cardboard and paper products Reuse glass jars as storage containers Take lunch to work Use a water filter system then fill a glass bottle instead of purchasing plastic water bottles Buy produce from local, organic farmers Pick up trash in the local neighbourhood Walk or ride a push bike to get to work. Use eco-friendly products made with natural, synthetic-free, and biodegradable materials Turn the lights off when you leave a room Don’t leave water taps running Incorporating sustainable practices into our daily lives requires motivation to inspire action and commitment. However, humanity needs to understand ‘why?’.  Let's cone back to the basics.  Our lives depend on clean air and water and nutrient-rich food from our beautiful planet.  Having these needs met brings peace, something all human beings aspire to. When we are at peace, we can develop a certain connection to the Divine and an innate interconnectedness with all living things – the plants and animals included. It is nature that sustains us. Nature provides essentials like clean air, fertile soil, and a climate that is stable. Unfortunately, human activities are placing these natural systems at risk exposing society to potential disease and death. In effect, taking away our peace. The practice of non-violence goes hand in hand with interconnectedness. The concept refers to doing as little harm as possible to ourselves, others, and all elements of the Earth. Instead of dominating nature, seek a dialogue. Be mindful of your impact on the planet. Creating a world that is both nature-positive and carbon-neutral may seem like a tall order, but it is fundamental to securing long-term health, inner and outer peace and prosperity.
