Who we are and how we work
Climate Change Writers is a volunteer platform. This page says who decides what runs, what we hold ourselves to, and what to do when we get it wrong.
The organisation
Climate Change Writers is a sub-initiative of TeraShift Sustainability Initiative, registered in Abuja, Nigeria as RC8960199. It has no owner, no advertising and no paywall.
Godwin Mayaki is the Convener. Editorial decisions are taken by the desk, whose members are not named here: several file from places where being publicly identified as an editor of climate coverage carries a risk they have not agreed to take. Any of them will identify themselves to you in correspondence about a piece.
What we publish
Reporting and analysis on climate change and sustainability, written mostly by people who are not journalists: researchers, teachers, farmers, engineers and students who know something specific about how the changing climate is landing where they live.
Two theme areas run each week, chosen from what writers propose rather than set by an editor. Anyone may write. Nobody is paid, including the desk.

What we hold ourselves to
- Sources are named. A figure without a source does not run. Where a source cannot be named for their safety, the piece says so and says why.
- People criticised are approached. If a piece says an organisation or a person did something wrong, we ask them first and carry their answer.
- Writers keep their copyright. We publish under a licence that lets others republish with credit and a link back. The writer decides, not us.
- We do not take money from anyone we cover. No advertising, no sponsored pieces, no arrangement where a subject pays.
- Corrections are visible. We do not edit a published piece quietly. A correction is dated, attached to the piece and shown at the top of it.
If we get something wrong
Tell us. You do not need an account and you do not need to be the subject of the piece.
You will get a reference straight away. The desk aims to answer within ten working days, and where a complaint is upheld the outcome is a correction on the piece itself, not a private apology.
