A Journey of Engagement

Charmaine's journey in journalism began during her university days, where she was an active member of the first-year Orientation crew and later served as a peer mentor for two years. These experiences not only honed her leadership and communication skills but also deepened her understanding of the importance of storytelling in shaping communities.

Breaking into the Media Industry

After graduating, Charmaine pursued her passion for journalism, working as a news reader and reporter for a local radio station. She covered a wide range of topics, from local news to national events, and developed a keen sense of storytelling and audience engagement.

A Focus on Environmental Journalism

Recently, Charmaine was selected for the African Future Youth Media Platform's (AFYMP) Women in Journalism Gender Reporting media program. This opportunity has enabled her to further develop her skills in reporting on environmental issues, particularly climate change.

"I joined the climate change writers community because of my passion for environmental issues," Charmaine explains. "I wanted to be part of a community that addresses climate change and promotes sustainability."
